Côte D’ivoire Embassy Calls For Collective Measures To End Fake News
Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire to Nigeria, Kalilou Traore, has stressed the need for collective measures aimed at strengthening the fight against fake news to stop its spread in Africa.
Traore gave the advice on Friday in Abuja during an interview, dismissing social media claims about a military coup in Côte d’Ivoire as false.
He described the social media reports claiming that President Alassane Ouattara was either captured, killed in a coup d’état, or had fled the country as unfounded and fake.
According to the envoy, many of the things reported on social media about Côte d’Ivoire on this subject were false; adding that everything said was simply fake news.
He reiterated the need for people to always verify information to ascertain the truth by checking or calling on people, as well as institutions of communication in the host country.
