Court can’t stop Ohanaeze election, says Anambra leader

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization Ohanaeze Ndigbo, says, no court injunction can stop its election on Sunday in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The outgone President of the organization in Anambra State, Chief Damian Okeke -Ogene, told reporters Friday that the idea of going to court to stop election had been the problem with Ndigbo

Okeke -Ogene spoke after the new executive of Ohanaeze, led by Emeka Udodeme emerged in the state

The new executive would pilot the affairs of the body for the next four years and would move to Imo State today (Saturday) for the Sunday national election

Ogene, who is being positioned as the new National vice Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, debunked the claim that the body was being destabilized from forces from other ethnic nationalities

He said it was not the first time people had gone to court to disrupt Ohanaeze election, adding that the election must take place

He said “nobody is surprised about what some people are trying to do by going to court to stop Ohanaeze election but it will not work

“Our people are fond of it. Have you heard of such thing happening in the North or Southwest? Forget their macabre dance, it will fail. Ohanaeze will elect it’s officers come Sunday,” he said

The election, which took place in Awka, was supervised by the organization’s national delegates, men of the Nigeria Police and the Department of Security Service, DSS, among other stakeholders across the state

The newly elected officers include; Udodeme Emeka Festus – President, Barr. Titus Akpudo – Vice-President, Okafor Chukwudubem Emmanuel – Secretary, Iwuchukwu Godwin – Treasurer, Nwafor Frederick Sunday – Financial Secretary, Omatali Samuel Udogalanya – Assistant Secretary.

Others were, Olumba Gilbert Chukwuka – Publicity Secretary, Ezeofor Peter Onyebuchi – Organizing Secretary, Emelife Emmanuel Chinweuba – Assistant Treasurer Chief Hon. Samuel Nweke – Assistant Publicity Secretary, among others.
