In an effort to check the importation of the coronavirus into the country, the federal government has issued new protocols for persons arriving in the country from abroad as well as evacuees.

The new protocol issued by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 includes mandatory 14-days isolation for all evacuees and returnees.

The returnees/evacuees are also expected to fill the Nigeria Health Declaration/Passenger Self-Reporting Form and submit their International Passport to the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, for special clearance until after the 14 days quarantine is successfully completed.

They will also be required to present themselves for a repeat COVID-19 PCR test on arrival in Nigeria within 24 to 48 hours at a facility to be determined by the government.

According to the new protocol, the returnees/evacuees will “Provide contact details to include a valid phone number and address where they will self-isolate/quarantine”.

They will also be responsible for their transport and accommodation during the period of self-isolation/quarantine in Lagos or Abuja.

Finally, the returnees/evacuees will equally be subject to the provisions of extant Public Health Laws, including prosecution, if they fail to abide by the conditions.
