DEPOWA doles out palliatives to wives of fallen heroes

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, has enjoined the widows of soldiers who died in the line of duty to be steadfast and loyal to the Defence and Police officers Wives Association, DEPOWA, in their daily activities.

General Olonisakin gave the injunction at the distribution of the second phase of palliatives to wives and orphans of soldiers who died to safeguard the nation at the DEPOWA centre in Abuja on Wednesday.

He asked the recipients to always observe the COVID-19 protocols of wearing face masks, hand washing, and physical distancing as prescribed by both the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, and the federal government.

The Chief of Defence Staff who was represented by Rear Admiral H. O. Ngalabak assured them that the military would always support them at all times.

Presenting the items, the President of DEPOWA, Mrs Omobola Olonisakin, who is also the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, said the palliatives were meant to help cushion the impact of the had times being experienced in the country.

The DEPOWA President who was represented by Mrs Abies Oghowen added that the palliatives were coming on the heels of the commemoration of the World Humanitarian Day which was marked on Tuesday.

Aside from the wives and orphans of fallen heroes, some less privileged persons also benefited from the palliatives which included bags of rice, cartons of indomie noodles, tomato pastes, vegetable oil and detergents.
