EFCC arrests 19 undergraduates over internet fraud
Nineteen undergraduates of Akwa Ibom State University, Mkpat-Enin, were at the weekend, arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Uyo Command, over alleged internet fraud.
They were arrested at their private hostels: Obong Abasi Lodge and Mfon Obong Lodge both located at Ikot Akpadem in Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area of the state on Friday.
Their arrest followed several months of surveillance on their alleged involvement in romance scam, fraudulent cryptocurrency transactions and impersonation.
Items recovered from them included several laptops and mobile phones.
EFCC authorities said the suspects would be charged in court as soon as investigations were concluded.
