Enugu Honors Football Legend Christian Chukwu With Solemn Service Of Songs
A solemn Service of Songs was held Sunday at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, to honor the late Nigerian football legend Christian Chukwu, who passed away on April 12, 2025.
The event, which took place from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, marked the start of a week-long funeral program organized by the Enugu State Government and the Chukwu family.
Family, friends, football enthusiasts, and dignitaries gathered to pay tribute to the former Super Eagles captain and coach, celebrated for leading Nigeria to its first Africa Cup of Nations title in 1980.
The service featured hymns, and prayers, in honour of Chukwu’s legacy in Nigerian football.
The funeral program continues with a Night of Tributes on Wednesday, a colloquium on Thursday, a novelty football match on Friday, and the burial ceremony on Saturday at Chukwu’s hometown in Obe, Nkanu West local government.
