A Federal Territory High Court sitting in Gwarinpa has remanded Dr. Chris Ngige, former Anambra State governor and Labour Minister in the administration of Muhammadu Buhari at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

Ngige, was arrested three days ago by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and charged to court on Friday.

It was a short appearance at the FCT high court in Gwarimpa with the EFCC listing 8 counts against the former minister of Labour.

The charges bordered on alleged contract fraud amounting to over five hundred million naira.
Ngige pleaded not guilty to the charges. But after Justice Mariam Hassan ordered Ngige to be remanded in Kuje prison, pending when he can perfect his bail condition, the EFCC counsel inexplicably told reporters this.

When the EFCC counsel was put under pressure on the not true plea by Dr. Chris Ngige before the judge, the counsel said that not true which means not guilty and pleading guilty to the eight count charge mean the same .

Counsel to Dr. Chris Ngegi Patrick Ikwueto SAN, told journalists that, Dr. Ngegi’s state of health, which is even known to EFCC was a greater concern.

He however said that even the charges against the former minister were not just frivolous but a waste of the time of the court because it cannot be justified.

Dr. Ngige is to return to court on Monday to argue his bail application even as he spends the weekend in Kuje correctional center
