FATAL ROAD CRASH IN ENUGU CLAIMS 16 LIVES
An auto crash that occurred along the Enugu-Opi- Nsukka road in Enugu State has claimed the lives of 16 persons.
The fatal accident which occurred at about 5:20 pm on Tuesday April 30, 2024 at Ekwegbe claimed the lives 14 male and 2 female passengers who were burnt beyond recognition.
The Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Enugu Tuesday night said the accident involved an 18-seater white-coloured Toyota Hummer bus with a Bauchi State commercial registration number DAS 215 XA and the inscription “Masha Allah”
The vehicle which was said to have been driven at high speed, lost control, and plunged into the fence of Maduka Onyishi University along the road and went into flames immediately.

Ndukwe said the only two passengers rescued alive were taken to the hospital for medical attention by police officers, soldiers and public spirited citizens, who immediately responded to the incident.
The vehicle which was loaded with edible vegetables and other food items apart from the passengers, was heading towards Nsukka from the Enugu axis of the road.
The actual point of take-off of the vehicle and the final destination were yet to be ascertained as at the time of this report while the items have been recovered by the Igbo-Etiti Police Division.
The State Police Commissioner, Kanayo Uzuegbu who visited the accident scene in company of officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission to assess the situation described the carnage as sad.
Uzuegbu while commiserating with the yet-to-be-traced family members, friends, and associates of the deceased appealed to individuals that can help in identifying the corpses to come forward with such information or alternatively call 08098880172 or 08086671202.
