Federal Government Receives 2 Million Doses of Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccines donated by European Union

In its commitment and effort in eradicating Covid-19 across Africa and other countries in the world, the Federal Government of Nigeria has received two million doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccines from the European Union.

At the handover ceremony of the vaccines on Monday at the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), National Strategic Cold Store, Abuja.

The European Union ambassador, Samuela Isopi who made the presentation of the vaccines said the donation is part of the EU’s commitment to jointly combat the pandemic.

She said the European Union so far is the biggest donor of covid-19 vaccine in the world has reached a milestone of donating 500 million doses of covid-19 vaccine delivered by COVAX, which is worth celebrating.

Isopi added that EU is now stepping up in its effort to support Africa where vaccination is lower than in other parts of the world. Today’s donation signifies the commitment of the EU to member states to support Nigerians in the fight against covid-19, she added.

The Executive Director, NPHCDA, Dr Faisal Shuaib said Federal Government has procured 39,850,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine from the AFREXIM Bank through the African Union. He thanked and appreciates the European Union for this generosity.

He said the total number of doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine available to Nigeria is about 51 million doses. At the moment, Nigeria currently has in-country 12,916,450 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccines.

Shuaib said Nigeria has vaccinated 15,792,392 (14.1%) of her eligible population with the 1st dose, called on all eligible Nigerians who are yet to be vaccinated to avail themselves of current opportunities to receive their COVID-19 vaccines. as no one is safe until all of us are safe.
