Following a combination of heavy rainfall and a massive overflow of the Orashi River, about 103 communities in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State have suffered severe flooding.
A Thursday visit to Akinima, the council headquarters of the local government revealed that many homes and farms have been almost completely submerged by the floodwaters.
Some of the affected communities visited include Mbiama, Akinima, Engenni, and Enedua among others.
The Chief Press Secretary of Ahoada West LGA, Esedi Joe, said the council is overwhelmed and is seeking assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and international agencies.
