Enugu State Police Commissioner, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has reiterated the firm commitment of the Police to maintaining maximum security, law, and order in the State, especially in this Yuletide.
This is coming on the heels of the arrest of four male suspects, separately arrested for the offenses of armed robbery, unlawful possession of ammunition, and fraudulent ATM card swapping.
Two firearms, two live cartridges, ATM cards from different banks, and other exhibits were recovered.
Accordingly, Police operatives serving in Independence Layout Police Division upon receipt of a distress call on an armed robbery operation, hastened to Phase 2 axis of Independence Layout and arrested one male suspect, Chukwudi Nweze, aged 29, while his cohorts escaped.
One locally fabricated pistol was recovered from him.
Similarly, on November 26, 2023 at about 10.45 p.m., Police operatives from the New Haven Police Division intercepted and arrested one Chibuike Omeje, 26, along Chime Avenue in New Haven, Enugu. His cohorts escaped, while one locally fabricated double-barrelled pistol was recovered from him.
In a related development, Police Operatives of Police Mobile Force, MOPOL 3, Enugu, while on routine stop and search duty along the Enugu/Onitsha Expressway, on December 6, 2023 at about 11.50 a.m., intercepted and arrested one Alozie Clinton Chidubem aged 22, and found in his unlawful possession two live cartridges.
In another development, Police operatives of the serving in Uwani Police Division, working with security operatives of a commercial bank along Agbani Road, Enugu, on December 6, 2023, at about 8.30 a.m., arrested one Aneke Felix Ogbonna, aged 26. The suspect and his accomplices, who escaped, had unsuspectingly swapped the ATM card of the bank’s customer before his arrest. Several banks’ ATM cards bearing different names were recovered from him, while he confessed to having severally committed the fraudulent act of ATM card swapping with his criminal gang members at large.
According to the Commissioner, all the suspects shall be arraigned in court and prosecuted accordingly once ongoing investigations into the cases are concluded.
