GUNMEN KILL 7 PERSONS IN IHIALA, ANAMBRA STATE OVER MONDAY SIT AT HOME

Seven persons were killed on Monday in Ihiala, Anambra state during an attack on security operatives in the area by suspected criminals.

Among those who lost their lives in the attack were two
passers-by while one of the victims is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

The assailants were said to have attacked Security Operatives and
unarmed civilians around eleven O'clock in the morning.

Eye witness accounts said the armed men started shooting sporadically at a venue where preparations were ongoing for a burial ceremony slated for 2nd of January, 2025.

The armed men shot at two Security Operatives at a security Observation Post close to the Ihiala Local Government Headquarters while escaping the scene.

The Anambra state Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam who visited the scene Monday for an on the spot assessment as well as the hospital where the injured were receiving treatment immediately ordered a manhunt for the suspected criminals.

A Catholic priest, Rev Father Tobias Okonkwo was shot dead along the
Ihiala Onitsha road few days ago while a retired Anglican bishop, Prof
Godwin Okpala, and a serving member of the Anambra state House of
Assembly, Justice Azuka who were abducted in different attacks in the
state and are yet to be found.
