Health professionals advocate enhanced primary health care in Nigeria

Health professionals have called for improved Primary Health Care (PHC) as a vital component for national development. 

Held at the college premises, the ceremony showcased the institution’s commitment to preparing students with the necessary skills for success in a connected world, producing graduates who excel academically and demonstrate leadership.

Dr. Lateef Olarewaju Raheem, the Provost of the College, encouraged the graduates to view their achievements as a foundation for future accomplishments.

Represented by Mrs. Margaret Oparinde, the Deputy Provost, he urged the inductees to uphold their professional ethics at all times and to serve as ambassadors for the college.

During the oath-taking ceremony, Dr. Bashir Idris, Registrar of CHPRBN, emphasized the importance of professional integrity, accountability, and commitment to service.

Represented by Dr. Risikat Motunrayo Onawola, Director of the Institute of Community Health in Abuja, Idris advised the inductees to embody ethics in their daily practices with confidentiality, respectful care, and non-discrimination.

“Competence is maintained through lifelong learning, evidence-based practice, and adherence to national guidelines,” Idris stated.

He added that as a regulatory body, CHPRBN is dedicated to upholding standards, accrediting training institutions, conducting professional examinations, and promoting continuous professional development.

A former board member of CHPRBN, Comr. Olabisi Adewumi, delivered a goodwill message urging the empowerment of Community Health Practitioners (CHPs) and advocating for sustainable PHC. He stressed that a healthy population is crucial for a nation’s socio-economic advancement.

Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Oladejo, a guest lecturer from the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State, highlighted the importance of community health as the backbone of the primary health care system. She urged the graduates to ensure fairness, equity, transparency, and accountability in their professional conduct.

Mrs. Joyce Folasade Adebayo, Head of Department, also congratulated the graduates for their commitment and resilience, expressing gratitude to the school management for their support.

The ceremony also included the induction of graduates from several other institutions, including the Seventh Day Adventist College of Health Technology in Ile-Ife, Adonis American College of Health Technology in Esa-Oke, Interlink College of Health Technology in Ijebu-Jesa, and Foreign Links College of Health Technology in Moro.
