Ikpeazu, Kalu salute Abians at 29
The people of Abia State in South East Nigeria Nigeria are celebrating the 29th anniversary of the creation of the State.
The State was created on the 27th of August, 1991, by the regime of military president, Ibrahim Babangida.
Present and past leaders of the state have been sending goodwill messages to the government and people of Abia State.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, saluted the people of the State and paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers who he said “worked tirelessly to ensure the actualization of the creation of Abia State and made it clear that even in the face of tough challenges, Abia people had continued to trudge on towards the path of peace and progress.”
The Governor thanked God and the people of the State for the security, peace and stability the State had enjoyed in last couple of years, describing Abia as the most politically stable state in the country.
Governor Ikpeazu assured the people of the State that even with the challenges posed by the sudden outbreak of COVID-19, which created massive economic shocks across the globe, his administration “will continue to apply prudence in ensuring that available resources are managed for the good of our people”, while seeking creative means to improve our financial capabilities.
“In the months ahead, we shall develop more sustainable means of solidifying our position as the SME Capital of Nigeria by continuing to support the growth of local enterprises as a catalyst for economic development”.
He sent his gratitude to all medical and allied services workers who have been in the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 and assured that his administration will do everything necessary to protect the people.
The former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, while congratulating the people of the state, urged the political class to place the collective interests of Abians above personal ambitions in a bid to improve the common lot of the people.
Describing Abia as the commercial hub of the South East, Senator Kalu who is also the Senate Chief Whip called on government at all levels, to support the business acumen of Abians.
“As we mark the 29th anniversary of the creation of Abia State, we must join hands with government in the development of the state. As peace loving people, we must continue to work harmoniously and collectively, to improve the well being of Abia State.
“Abians are hardworking, patriotic and compassionate and as such, we must shun violence and other social vices in a bid to take our state to greater heights. As elected leaders, regardless of party affiliation, we must make the welfare of Abians a top priority in our agenda.”
