Immigration suspends application for passport
The Nigerian Immigration Service on Tuesday announced the suspension of application for and renewal of Nigerian passports until the first of June 2021.
The suspension is to enable the service clear the backlog of applications for passport submitted before May 17th and prepare the service for the regime of passport issuance which is to commence on June 1st, 2021.
The Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede announced the suspension while decorating officers who were promoted by the Civil Defence, Correctional Service, Fire and Immigration board.
In a statement issued by the Immigration public relations officer, Sunday James, the Immigration Service would now process applications for new passports within 6 weeks under the new passport regime.
According to Sunday James, the Comptroller General decorated 87 newly promoted officers comprising of 30 Assistant Comptrollers General, ACG, and 57 Comptrollers of Immigration Service.
The immigration board promoted a total of 2,071 in the current exercise.
While decorating, the promoted officers, the Comptroller General charged them to exhibit a high sense of professionalism and commitment to duty.
