INEC Presents Certificate Of Return To Enugu State Gov Elect, His Deputy And The Members Of Enugu State House Of Assembly Elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday the 30th of March 2023 presented the certificate of return to the Enugu state governor-elect Hon. Peter Ndubuisi Mba, his deputy Hon. Peter Ossai and newly elected members of Enugu State House of assembly.

The event which took place at Bon platinum Hotel Enugu had the presence of the national electoral commissioner for Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo state, Kenneth Nnamdi Ukaegbu, the Enugu state INEC Rec. Hon. Chukwuemeka Chukwu, the deputy governor of Enugu State Mrs Cecilia Ezilo, the Commissioner of Police Enugu state, Usman Alkali, Chairmen of Enugu state Local government Councils, and many other officials of the state.

The INEC national Commissioner for Enugu, Imo and Ebonyi while welcoming the guests said that section 72(1) of the electoral act of 2022 mandated the Independent national Electoral Commission to issue certificates of return to those who won elections conducted by the commission, and on that note as the national Commissioner that he is here to hand over the certificate of return to the governor-elect, the deputy governor-elect and the members of the state house of assembly elect who have contested and won the election conducted on the 18th of March 2023 in Enugu state.

He also reassured the people that the commission is independent and nonpartisan, adding that the commission owns the national responsibility of conducting free, fair and credible elections.

He also noted that the commission has also deployed both technology and administrative resources to marking sure that Nigeria’s electoral processes are strengthened as mostly demonstrated by the intervention of the BVAS. The National Commissioner, therefore, congratulated the elected individuals and asked them not to disappoint the people of Enugu State.

On the other hand, the governor-elect, Hon. Peter Mba, while delivering his acceptance speech thanked everyone who had come to witness the event. He said that history will never forgive them if at this time when they should be pursuing the interest and development of Enugu State and they still remain in the struggle for political gains.

He also thanked his brothers with whom he ran the race. Adding that even though they belonged to different parties they were still United in their passion for the growth of Enugu State.

Hon. Mba then added that the time for politics has ended, adding that is time to come together to move Enugu State forward.

He, therefore, thanked the stakeholders for their tireless efforts in ensuring that people’s voices were heard.
