INTER-HOUSE SPORTS PREPARES STUDENTS FOR REAL-WORLD CHALLENGES – PRINCIPAL JSS MPAPE

The Principal Junior Secondary School, JSS Mpape, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Daudu Yahaya says Inter-House Sports Competition helps to develop and prepare students for real-world challenges.

He said the competition with varied sporting and recreational activities is a game of winner or loser and this helps to condition the mind of students and build their mental alertness.

The school principal stated this at the 9th Inter-House Sports Competition of the school held on Thursday.

It was a large gathering of Teachers, Students and Parents at JSS Mpape to witness the colourful event.

The competition was for students from Red, Green, Pink, Yellow, Purple and Blue houses competing with each other in the true spirit of sportsmanship.  

The event featured 100 meters relay race for both boys and girls, egg race, staff race, principals’ race amongst other races.

There was a cultural display by the students to keep their invited guests thrilled.

At the end of the Competition, Red House came out top to beat other houses with 196 points while green house and the purple house came second and third respectively

In the spirit of celebration for the winning house, the winner of the girls 200 meters relay race on behalf of the red house narrated her experience and journey.

The school principal, Daudu Yahaya who spoke to Signature TV advised the students who did not perform well not to be discouraged but rather see it as a building process.

Speaking at the event, the Parent Teachers Association, PTA Chairman of the school, Mohammed Kudu complained about the poor state of sporting facilities in the school and called on the parents to help improve the school’s sporting facilities.

Lending her voice, Blessing Akaye, the games head of the school, enumerated some challenges she and her team faced in the event.

The Chief Executive Officer of Signature TV, Vin Martin Obiora Ilo in his goodwill message thanked the school management for organizing such an event.

Earlier, a Non-Governmental Organization, Lan Health Initiative donated a trophy to the overall house winner of the competition. The representative of the organization, Nnamdi Charles enumerated what the NGO intends to achieve with the school student in their drug and health advocacy program

The Inter-House Sports Competition is held annually in Junior Secondary School, Mpape to promote sportsmanship between the students.

The school is also the first Corruption Tori School Anti-Corruption club to be inaugurated Corruption Tori is an Anti-Corruption program produced by Signature TV and sponsored by MacArthur Foundation to amplify the war against corruption in Nigeria.
