The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service has closed the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company due to a N600 million tax liability.
After the operation early Friday, KADIRS Executive Chairman Jerry Adams stated that the action was to enforce a court order regarding the outstanding amount owed to the state.
He noted that the N600 million liability, covering the period from 2015 to 2022, was reconciled with KAEDCO, which agreed to pay a substantial portion of it.
Adams expressed frustration that, despite last year’s establishment of the liability, KAEDCO has not fulfilled its payment commitments.
“We are legally empowered to seal their premises to ensure compliance, and that is what we accomplished this morning,” he said.
He urged other businesses, individuals, and organizations to prioritize voluntary compliance in tax payments.
