Kubwa community women repair bad road amid FCTA, Bwari council’s negligence
A group of female residents in Kubwa are repairing the dilapidating access road to their community, Byazhin Across.
The area is located in the inner parts of Kubwa, a suburb in the nation’s capital.
The road leading to Byazhin Across has been in a bad state for several years causing accidents.
Mrs Khadijat Kosoko, a member of the group recalled that the project started in 2019.
“Seeing how pregnant women were having miscarriages, students falling from bikes, we came up with an idea to help the community fix the deplorable road”, she said.
“We started with filling potholes, a man saw us and offered to help with financial assistance. We decided to fix the whole road, using cement, stones and sand.”
Kosoko disclosed they stayed on the road temporarily and asked for assistance from motorists and passersby.
She added that the money they received was surprising and they commenced work afterwards.
The group leader, Mrs Bola Shitta, a.k.a. Mama Kpomo said they had experienced countless challenges, from being cheated to people refusing to contribute and others insulting them
Shitta commended the diligent women who volunteered for the project.
“By the grace of God, if the government does not intervene or assist us, we will keep on doing the good work. We will go beyond this place and take the project further”, she said.
