Life in my city organises Abuja regional exhibition
LIFE IN MY CITY, a non-, governmental organization that promotes art among young Nigerians organized its Abuja regional arts exhibition on Tuesday.
The exhibition attracted over 600 entries nationally, the highest number since the exhibition started in 2007.
The Art Director of the organization, Dr Ayo Adewunmi, while welcoming attendees, thanked the participants for showing interest in this year’s art competition.
He said that the reason for the regional exhibition was to make it easier for participants to submit their artwork and art lovers in the region to be part of the festival, a move away from the submission of all entries in Enugu.
Adeyemi explained that Life in My City, LIMCAF, has thirteen regional centers where entries are now submitted.
He thanked MTN and Ford Foundations for their support, which has increased the quality and impact of the competition and raised the price money for the overall winner for this year to one million naira which is 100% increase from the five hundred thousand naira that was awarded last year.
A member of the Board of Trustees of LIMCAF, Vinmartin Obiora Ilo, commended LIMCAF for their effort to promote art in Nigeria.
He expressed his appreciation to the Thoughts Pyramid Arts Gallery Abuja for hosting the exhibition and the Special Guest at the occasion Senator Ayogu Eze for his support to LIMCAF over time and urged other well-to-do Nigerians, to emulate the senator to encourage LIMCAF in the good job it’s doing.
Mr. Ilo said it was to bring LIMCAF closer to art lovers across the country, that a one-week exhibition of the best artworks from the festival over the years, is being proposed in Abuja and Lagos every year.
Also in his address, a director of MTN Nigeria Foundation, Reginald Okeya, said the MTN has been supporting the participation of young people in visual arts with the aim of nurturing talents.
He thanked the Life In My City team for the idea of promoting arts in the country, adding that young people are the future of our society.
A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dennis Agbo, commended the artists for showing interest in Life In My City Arts Festival, likening art as a meeting point between man and God in creativity.
Declaring the exhibition open, the Special Guest, Senator Ayogu Eze pointed out that anytime Nigeria is mentioned in the international arena the only thing that comes to the mind of foreigners is criminality and other vices. He said there was a need for the country’s critics to also recognize the positive energy of young Nigerians shown in endeavours like LIMCAF, thanking LIMCAF for changing the narrative through art.
Also in attendance were Igwe Victor Meniru, Traditional Ruler of Egwu Achi, Royal Father of the day, LIMCAF Trustee,Uzo Okigbo, artists, art lovers, public office holders, students and the general public.
