Military Officers’ Wives Provide Welfare Support To Fallen Heroes’ Widows
Over 40 widows of fallen heroes have benefitted from a welfare package and skill acquisition intervention of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA).
The relief items were presented on Sunday, during a familiarisation tour of NAOWA President and wife of the Chief of Army Staff, Mrs Mariya Abiodun Lagbaja, to the Three Division Headquarters of the Nigerian Army in Jos, Plateau State.
Mrs Lagbaja presented the widows with cash and gift donations, assuring them that their husbands’ sacrifices in service to the nation would not be in vain.
The NAOWA president also commissioned some projects which she said would consolidate on existing legacies of her predecessors, adding that new projects and programmes that would benefit members were in the offing.
Some of the projects commissioned included the NAOWA Multipurpose Hall and the renovated NAOWA Bus Stop. She also donated tricycles to meet the transportation needs of the people within the barracks and distributed starter packs to graduands of the NAOWA Acquisition Centre.
Mrs Lagbaja paid a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding, Three Division, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, during which she highlighted the pillars of the NAOWA as they related to the welfare and capacity-building of members.
Abubakar applauded the programmes and vision of the NAOWA president as people-oriented with emphases on intervention to widows and enhancing members through training and skills acquisition.
Mrs Lagbaja reiterated her commitment to embark on projects that would have a direct bearing and impact on members of the association and citizens.
