The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has declared it will join the nationwide strike and protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday.
NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have been mobilizing members for the strike scheduled against recent hike in fuel price and electricity tariff.
The NANS PRO (Southwest Zone D), Kazeem Olalekan Israel, told The Nation all JCC chairmen in the southwest region have been notified and mobilized to galvanize students for mass action on Monday.
A statement by Kowe Odunayo Amos, Coordinator, NANS Zone D, said: “Today, the people are living in despair and there is high cost of living. Low standard of living with the government doing absolutely nothing to ease the clear hardship we have in the land. There is no proper adjective to employ in describing the increment which PMS pump price has received in the last 3months”
“It is based on the foregoing we declare our solidarity and full support… We call on all Civil Society Organizations both on and off campuses to unite and mobilize millions of Nigerians to the streets on Monday.”
