The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons South East Zone has called on all Nigerians to get involved in the war against the proliferation of small arms and light weapons.
Speaking at a one day stakeholders seminar in the Enugu Zonal Coordinator of centre, Major General Okechukwu Ugo said the stressed the need to achieve an illicit arms-free society noting that weapons poses a serious threat to the society.
In his own remarks, Brigadier General M.M Abu who stood in for the General Officer Commanding the 82 division stated that the possession of illicit arms is a major problem faced in Nigeria and called for capital punishment for anyone found in possession of illegal arms.

A representative of the Enugu State Police Command, Akaeme Onyeamo called for more intelligence gathering on arms proliferation from various communities to check the activities of undesirable elements who acquire and misuse the illegally acquired arms to cause havoc in the society.
He suggested that the local manufacturers who produce these arms should be engaged by the government to produce arms for official use and discourage them from illegal production.
