National Human Rights Commission Raises Citizen Welfare As Central To Governance

The National Human Rights Commission says citizen welfare and security must remain the major reason for the existence of any government.

The Commission took this position at an event to address the level of hunger in Nigeria.

The event was the 4th annual seminar.on zero hunger and improved nutrition organized by the Thelema Lion foundation.

Speaking at the event which had the theme “Hope is not a strategy for zero hunger and improved nutrition” the executive secretary of the commission, Dr. Tony Ojukwu, said that nutrition is critical for human dignity and the welfare and security of the citizens remain the reason for the existence of any government.

Dr. Tony Ojukwu acknowledged that the vulnerable population, especially women, children and the elderly are most at risk of the consequences of hunger and malnutrition.

The founder of Thelma Lion foundation, the organizers of the event , Thelma Madubuike said that the foundation has empowered over five thousand women across Nigeria.

The theme of the event “Hope is Not a Strategy for Zero Hunger and Improved Nutrition” brought together stakeholders, government officials and vulnerable people to address hunger, improving nutrition, and supporting vulnerable communities.

For some of those who benefitted from this year’s event, it was a story of gratitude.

Tuesday’s event symbolized hope and sent a clear message that Nigeria’s vulnerable population is not alone and the future still holds a promise
