NDDC: Senate Adhoc Committee recommends sack of IMC
The Adhoc Committee in its report recommended among other things the dissolution of the IMC.
The committee also wants the NDDC to be returned to the Presidency for what it called “direct supervision” adding that the monitoring and advisory bodies recognized by law establishing the NDDC be inaugurated immediately.
It lamented the extra-budgetary spending by the IMC which it noted was an affront which also affects the people of the Niger Delta.
The Adhoc committee noted that the Ministry of Niger Delta has no capacity to implement the forensic audit, insisting that the Auditor General of the Federation should supervise the forensic audit for transparency and efficiency.
It asked that the Auditor General appoints internationally recognized audit experts to carry out the exercise.
It also recommended that the N1.4bn spent on COVID -19 by the IMC should be refunded to the NDDC account.
The lawmakers will give final approval to the recommendations of the Adhoc Committee which report was presented at plenary for deliberation by the Chairman, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi.
