Nigeria’s extractive industry holds potential to improve the lives of the ordinary citizens and provide vast job opportunities for the youth

The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, NEITI, Dr Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, made the observation when a team of Signature TV executives paid the organization a courtesy visit at its Abuja corporate headquarters.

Dr. Ogbonnaya Orji explained that the work of NEITI, was to track the activities of operatives in the extractive industry including oil and gas to ensure that revenues due to government are remitted and revenues derived from the sector are deployed in the interest of the people.

He said that the interaction of NEITI and the Public Accounts Committee of the Senate was to provide highlights of the 2023 report of NEITI and arm the legislators with statistics and recommendation to assist in their legislative functions.

Dr. Ogbonnaya Orji requested for the collaboration of Signature TV, especially in making information on the work of NEITI available at the sub-national level.

In his response, the Chief Executive of Signature TV, VinMartins Obiora Ilo observed that work of NEITI has increased accountability in Nigeria’s extractive industry.

He pledged that Signature TV will partner with NEITI to deepen transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s extractive industry.

Mr. Ilo explained that as an independent and professionally run television outfit, Signature TV is in a position to drive anti-corruption, accountability and other activities of NEITI to the grassroots where such critical information was needed.

The visit of the Signature TV team to NEITI, is one in many of such visits to create a collaborative relationship with critical institutions in the country.
