The Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, has tasked the committee saddled with the responsibility of distributing palliatives in Gawu-Babangida, Gurara Local Government Area, to ensure transparency, accountability and equal distribution of the items so as to meet the desired objectives.
The SSG gave the directive when he monitored distribution of palliatives in Maiyaki, Kofan Gidan Hakimi, Model Primary School, Police Barracks and Dawaki polling units in Gawu-Babangida.
He expressed the state government’s determination to ensure that the palliatives reach the intended beneficiaries so as to assist them, particularly at this critical time of need.
According to him, the distribution of palliatives was aimed at ameliorating the suffering of the people occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.
He told the residents of the area that “the present administration of Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago is committed to ensuring the comfort of Nigerlites through delivering dividends of democracy and provision of physical projects as well as implementing impactful programmes and policies”.
Usman also urged the residents to live peacefully with one another irrespective of religious, political or tribal affiliations.
Some of the residents who benefited from the distribution of the palliatives thanked the state government for the steps taken to cushion the biting effects of fuel subsidy removal.
One of the residents, Mairo Musa, said, “The removal of fuel subsidy has really caused untold hardship on the people. However, we thank the state governor Hon Muhammad Umar Bago for the palliatives which will go a long way in reducing the difficulties we are facing.”
