Nigeria Receives 699,760 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from UK Government
Nigeria has received Six Hundred and Ninety-Nine Thousand, Seven Hundred and Sixty Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccine, a donation made by UK Government to support Nigeria in the fight against Covid-19.
The vaccines were received by the Director of National Health Care Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib and other stakeholders in the ministry of health, in Abuja on Tuesday
The Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib said that the vaccines would be distributed across all the states in the country and would be given to those who have taken the first dose of Astrazeneca vaccine and were due for the second dose, urging them to visit any vaccination site close to them and complete their doses.
He said that Nigeria would receive another Eight Hundred and One Thousand , Six Hundred doses of Astrazeneca vaccine from COVAX facility, at the end of August, from the Canadian Government.
Shuaib assured Nigerians that all the brands of Covid-19 vaccines were certified by the World Health Organization and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, and are effective against the Covid-19 virus
The Acting British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Gill Atkinson stated that Astrazeneca vaccine donation to Nigeria by the UK Government was due to UK’s commitment to help every country around the world to eradicate Covid-19 virus
She stated that vaccines supplied to Nigeria was the first tranche of the One Point Two -Nine Million doses to be donated by the UK Government through COVAX facility.
The World Health Organization Country representative, Dr Kazadi Mulombo promised that WHO would continue to work with the UK Government to ensure that everyone across the world gets vaccinated
The second phase of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign was flagged off on Monday 16th August 2021.
