Nigeria, UK Commit To Strengthen Democratic Institutions, Regional Stability

The Nigeria’s House of Representatives and the United Kingdom Parliament have agreed to strengthen their democratic institutions and regional stability.

The two parliamentarians spoke when the Deputy Speaker; Benjamin Kalu received Lord Collins of Highbury, the UK’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Africa, in Abuja.

Kalu voiced his support for the Special Seats for women and boosting female representation in Nigeria’s parliament as key to achieving inclusive development.
He also raised concerns about the UK’s recent immigration reforms, calling for fairer treatment of Nigerian nationals.

With bilateral trade between the two countries hitting 7.2 billion pounds and Nigeria’s economy growing by 3.4% in 2024 both leaders agreed that there was need to grow the relations between the two countries.
