The Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim says laws which should improve the place of women and girls in Nigeria face little commitment to their implementation.
The Minister was speaking at the flagoff of the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration in Abuja.
The Minister said that the issue of gender equality in Nigeria needs deliberate, decisive and bold action to break barriers, close gaps and empower Nigerian women and girls to achieve in every sphere of national life.

The Minister said that as much as a number of state governments have domesticated the Child Rights Act and other laws favourable to women and girls, gender equality still faces four critical challenges.
The other challenges include lack of access to finance, markets and digital literacy, gender-based violence and poor political representation.
The theme of the 2025 International Women’s Day is Accelerate Action, which emphasize the need by nations to upscale and prioritize action on gender equality and equity.
