Nigeria’s Economic Crisis: Islamic Group Focuses on Women Small Businesses

A faith based group, the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic affairs, is weighing in on the economic crisis confronting many homes and businesses across the country.

The group aims to reach 500 small businesses across the country.

In Kwali, the group provided interest free loans to 75 women businesses and individuals.

The empowerment which was for businesses in the Kwali Area council of the Federal capital territory was under the auspices of the Education, Social and Health Mission of the council.At the flag-off of the disbursement of revolving loan in Kwali area council, the organizations said the loan was to start up new businesses and support existing ones.

The project named Women Ease-Up Project, (WEP), is to uplift and providing economic opportunities for the vulnerable population.

The Community leader who was represented by the Secretary, Etsu Kwali Palace, Musa Audu recalled that the community was once duped by Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) where many people invested but it turned out to be fake.

He expressed the hope that the revolving loan by the MESH which has zero interest rate, would be seen by beneficiaries as trust on them which should be managed to enable others to benefit from it.

Speaking with Signature TV, a Volunteer, Khadija Hamza said the revolving loan was given to the women based on trust to boost their businesses and they are to pay back in six months time.

For some of the beneficiaries, Rabi, Yunusa and Huzaimatu Musa who received the sum of one hundred thousand and Fifty thousand Naira, each, appreciated the organization for supporting their businesses, and promised to pay back the loan at the stipulated time.

The seventy-five women that benefited from the empowerment received between one hundred thousand and fifty thousand naira to support their businesses.

Women Ease-Up Project (WEP) is a project targeted at empowering over 500 women nationwide.
