NIMC PORTAL COLLAPSES – NO NEW NIN
The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC’s portal, its interactive database, has collapsed.
In consequence, Nigerians cannot obtain their national identity numbers or access and retrieve numbers for those already registered.
Additionally, mobile telephone service providers can no longer issue new SIM numbers which require national identity numbers. They cannot also do a welcome back for their clients who have compromised or destroyed their SIM cards or have lost them.
In Abuja, on Friday our correspondent noticed queues outside MTN, GLO and Airtel offices with frustrated Nigerians struggling in vain to obtain new phone numbers or retrieve lost ones.
For many of those whose businesses rely on their phones, the situation is most frustrating. The slogan now is keep your phone safe or you may have to wait for as long as it takes for the NIMC portal to come back to life.
