NUT COMMENDS BENUE STATE GOV. ALIA, FOR UPLIFTING TEACHERS CONDITION OF SERVICE

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has commended Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Hycinth Alia for alleviating the working condition of teachers in the State.

In letter of commendation signed by the NUT National President, Comrade Audu Titus Amba and Secretary General, Dr Mike Ike Eneh, the Union said the Governor has taken several measures to address the welfare needs of teachers.

The NUT said actions taken by the Governor include, the full implementation of years of promotions not implemented for all teachers, prompt and regular payment of monthly salaries of primary and secondary schools teachers, issuance of monthly salary pay slip to teachers, the first of its kind in the history of Benue State and implementation of the Harmonized Retirement Age Act 2022 for Teachers, making it possible for teachers to retire at 65 years of age or 40 years of service.

According to the Union, Benue teachers had never had it so good, reassuring Governor Alia “that the hard working teachers of Benue State will reciprocate Your Excellency’s kind gestures with increased dedication to duty and productivity”.

They also urged the Benue Governor “revalidate the revoked allocation of land at Iyde Village, Makurdi town which was given to the NUT some years back.

Signature TV Correspondent in Markudi reports that teachers in Benue State have been in high spirits, following various interventions by the new government to remedy the declining state of education and condition of teachers in the State.
