Ogun primary schoolteacher arrested for kidnapping ex-pupil

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a primary school teacher, Samson Odugbesan, for allegedly kidnapping his former pupil, Rasaq Akeeb.

The suspect was arrested in the Ajuwon area of Ogun State after he was lured with part payment of the ransom he demanded on the child.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abeokuta.

Oyeyemi explained that the victim’s mother, Fatimat Akeeb, reported the case of her missing child at the Ajuwon divisional headquarters in Akute, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The PPRO said the woman told the police that she received a call from an unknown number demanding N200,000 for the release of her son.

“She stated further that the caller told her that the boy was brought to him by somebody and he would not release him until the said amount was paid.

“Upon the report, the DPO Ajuwon division, SP Andrew Akinseye, directed detectives to embark on a technical and intelligence-based investigation, which led to the discovery of the suspect’s hideout,” Oyeyemi added.

The police spokesman explained that detectives lured the suspect out with part payment of the ransom and subsequently apprehended him.

He added that Odugbesan subsequently took the police to where the victim was.

The PPRO noted that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the crime, but blamed it on the devil.

Oyeyemi, however, said the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
