Men of the Oyo State Fire Service have again averted another disaster that could have resulted from a fallen tanker around Jin-Jofes Filling Station, Iwo Road, Ibadan.

The fire incident was reported at 20:07 hours on Wednesday, through a telephone call by Mr. Adisa Kazeem to the fire service office.

A statement by the Manager, Oyo state Fire Services Agency, Akinyinka Akinyemi, indicated that “the Agency’s Officers led by ACFS Adeniyi Adesina promptly deployed to the scene of the incident and met a DAF trailer tanker with regd. No T17657LA (Lagos) of 50,000 litres capacity loaded with Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) skidded off the road to the nearby gutter with its content gushing out”.

Akinyinka said that the firemen swung into action, quickly blanketing the spillage with chemical foam compound so as to neutralize the flammability of the content from catching fire from the surrounding area.

Preliminary investigation shows that the accident was due to a loss of control while the driver was trying to navigate a road bend. The driver and the motor boy were rescued alive, while the latter sustained a minor injury on his shoulder and was carried to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.
