Palm Sunday Celebration: A Call To Humility
The Anglican Bishop of Nike Diocese Enugu, Christian Onyia, has urged Christians to embody humility, following Christ’s example during his triumphant entry into Jerusalem. This call to humility was made on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025, after the Bishop paid a condolence visit to the late Christian Chukwu’s family.
It was a significant Sunday in Enugu as our roving camera captured processions of various denominations including the Catholic, Anglican, and Methodist churches, showcasing the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ with Palms in their hands and shouts of Hossana to the king of kings.
The Anglican Bishop of Nike Diocese, Bishop Christian Onyia, advised that we should embody Christ’s humility in daily life, stating that the celebration marked Jesus Christ’s humility while triumphantly entering into Jerusalem as it symbolizes humility, obedience, and sacrifice.
At Mater Dei Catholic Parish, we witnessed the vibrant procession of church members, including male servers, Reverend sisters, Reverend fathers, and other church wardens, into the church for the Palm Sunday service. The atmosphere was filled with joy and anticipation, reflecting the importance of this day in the Christian calendar.
Some church members shared their knowledge of Palm Sunday, highlighting its significance as the day Jesus Christ triumphantly entered Jerusalem. According to them, this event marked the beginning of the Passion Week, leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.
Palm Sunday holds great significance for Christians worldwide, serving as a reminder of Jesus teachings and the events leading up to his crucifixion and resurrection.
The palm branches carried by the congregation symbolize Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where people waved palm branches to welcome him.
