PDP INAUGURATES 119 MEMBER COVENTION COMMITTEE – WATCH VIDEO
The People’s Democratic Party has inaugurated its National Convention Organising Committee. The Adanawa state governor, Umaru Fintiri is leading the 119 member committee which is to organise an elective convention on November 15, in Ibadan the Oyo state capital.
At the inauguration on Tuesday, party leaders called for unity and discipline.
The National Chairman of PDP, Umar Damagun, said the committee’s work will determine how the party positions itself for the future.
He told members the PDP has survived difficult moments, and remains on course to challenge for power.
However, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, speaking for his colleagues, warned against what he described as arrogance and impunity by some elements in the party.
The governor said party’s governors will not allow anyone to drag the PDP down, in what many interpret as a response to recent comment by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike who raised opposition to the return of Peter Obi to the party.
Both Bala Mohammed and Umar Damagun called for discipline and focus, urging members to put aside personal grievances ahead of the November 15th convention in Ibadan.
With the convention weeks away, the PDP leadership says it is united. But with veiled shots still flying, the internal battle for control of the party may not be over yet.
