PDP kicks of screening of Governorship candidates in Ondo, dissolve South West Caretaker committee
A five-man panel led by the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, started screening of nine aspirants in the July 22 governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State.
The exercise which commenced at exactly 1:00pm lasted several hours with each aspirant accompanied by a mammoth crowd of family members and political associates.
The exercise took place at the party’s national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
Among those screened were Ondo State deputy governor who recently defected to the PDP from the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon. Agboola Ayayi; the PDP governorship candidate in 2016, Eyitayo Jegede; Sen. Boluwaji Kunlere and Dr. Eddy Olafeso, immediate past vice chairman (South-West) of the party.
Others included Ben Banji Okunomo, Bode Ayorinde, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye,Godday Erewa and Barrister Sola Ebiseeni
In another development the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved the South West Zonal Caretaker Committee of the party and announced a new one.
According to the PDP national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the action of the NWC was in pursuant to Sections 29 (2)(b) and 31(2)(e) of the party’s Constitution (2017 as amended).
Ologbondiyan, in a statement he issued, added that “the newly constituted South West Zonal Caretaker Committee has Dayo Ogungbenro as chairman and Hon. Daisi Akinniran as secretary.
“Other members of the committee are Chief Taiwo Abayomi Kuye, Chief Adeola Ogunrinde, Mrs. Oyebola Fadeyi Awolowo, Prince Nekan Olagbegi, Mrs. Funmi Oguns and Hon. Owokoniran Olabisi Wahab,” he said.
