Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar Absent As ADC Begins Membership Registration
There are questions among some party members over alignment within the African Democratic Congress, ADC, following the absence of two prominent political figures, Peter Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, at the party’s membership revalidation and mobilisation exercise in Abuja on Thursday.
Both politicians have been linked in recent months to possible outside ADC alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC on Thursday flagged off its nationwide membership revalidation, mobilisation and registration exercise in Abuja.
The event, which also featured the inauguration of state Membership Revalidation, Mobilisation and Registration Committees, was attended by several party leaders and stakeholders.
Notable among them were the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, who revalidated his membership, and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
However, the absence of Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, both regarded as key political figures ahead of 2027, sparked quiet speculation among party faithful and observers.
Both men were however said to have been in field campaigning for ADC candidates in February 21 Abuja area council elections.
Speaking at the membership registration flag off, the National Secretary of the party, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, stressed the need for integrity in party building.
He warned against inflating membership figures with what he described as “ghost members,” insisting that only genuine and committed members can strengthen the party.
