Plateau Confirms Over 300 Killed Since Christmas Eve

The Plateau State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Musa Sule, says since Christmas Eve attack to Wednesday January 24, more than Three Hundred Lives have been lost in the state.

He stated this on Thursday, 25 January, in Abuja at the 21st Daily Trust Dialogue themed; Tinubu Economic Reforms: Gainers and Losers. 

According to the Commissioner, security is the primary responsibility of government and there is no way economic activities can thrive without security in the state. He called for federal government intervention to end insecurity in the state.

Recently, no fewer than 30 persons were killed by assailants in Kwahaslalek Village, a community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has condemned the recent security breach in Mangu Local Government Area and imposed curfew in the LGA.

The Plateau State Police Command, on Thursday, paraded 16 suspects in connection with the recent attacks on the Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

A spokesman for the Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, said nine of the suspects were arrested on Wednesday during an operation to restore normalcy in Mangu town while the other seven were apprehended over 2023 Christmas Eve attacks in the state.

Plateau State has been badly hit by blood-thirsty marauders of late with over 200 killed during Christmas Eve attacks in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas. Many houses and farmlands were also burnt in the overnight attacks and scores were injured.

Over 50 villages were said to be affected by the attacks with the United Nations urging the Federal Government to do a thorough probe into the incidents.
