Police confirm arrest of a suspect in the killing of Enugu councilor by gunmen

One of the suspects involved in the murder of Duhu Nelson Sylvester Nnacheta, the Councilor representing Eha-Ulo Ehalumona Council Ward in Nsukka Local Government Area Legislative Council, has been arrested.

Recall that Sylvester, who was popularly known as Ofunwa, was shot dead on Sunday night by gunmen at his residence in the Eha-Alumonah community.

Although, the police public relations officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the incident to our correspondent he did not provide details.

Ndukwe, who said an investigation into the gruesome killing had been launched, however, promised to issue a statement on the incident on the incident.

Meanwhile, our correspondent gathered that the gunmen stormed the lawmaker’s house and started raining bullets on him.

A community source revealed that the Councilor ran into a neighbouring compound during the attack but sustained bullet wounds and he died there.

“After the attack, residents searched for him at his house but could not find him. We felt he had escaped but unfortunately, we saw his lifeless body in the backyard of a neighbouring compound.

“The killing is one too many. it is heartbreaking; it is too hard for us to swallow. We are in deep agony,” the source said.

The development sparked tension in the town and other neighbouring communities as nobody could figure out the reason behind his assassination.
