Police in Sokoto Deny Clash, Killing Shiite Members during Ashura
Sokoto state police command has described as inaccurate the story making the rounds that it’s men clash with members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria also known as Shi’ite during their Ashura procession that allegedly resulted in the death of three Shiite members.
The police in a statement signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer Assistant Superintendent of Police Sanusi Abubakar said the command has debunked the story saying it is an attempt to create chaos and disrupt the peace of the general public in Sokoto by some mischief makers.
Mr. Abubakar said for the avoidance of doubts and clarity, the command is hereby giving the accurate report of the incident.
According to him, on Thursday 19th August,2021 , large group of shi’it members were on demonstrations along Mabera kantin Sani area and they we’re attacked by some hoodlums and it’s resulted into a clash between the Shiite members and the hoodlums.
He said the police on receiving distress call mobilized a team of police men to the area to curtail the spread of the crises to other areas and immediately restore peace.
