The Kwara State Police Command says it has placed its officers and men on high alert following the jailbreak at Suleja Medium Custodial Centre in the neighbouring Niger State.

The Command, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi  in Ilorin on Sunday, assured residents of the state of their protection and safety.

Recall that there was a heavy rainstorm which occurred at night and inflicted an extensive damage on the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State on the 24th of April leading to the escape of 118 inmates.

The breach in the perimeter fence caused by the downpour facilitated the escape prompting the Nigerian Correctional Service to activate its recapturing protocols and so far has successfully recovered 13 of the escaped inmates.

The service adds that collaborative efforts with other security agencies are ongoing to recapture the 105 fleeing inmates on the run.
