PRESIDENTIAL AIDE URGES ENGAGEMENT OF FBOS TO TACKLE FP CHALLENGES
Salma Ibrahim-Anas, Senior Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Health Matters, has called for engagement of Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs), community and traditional leaders to tackle challenges of Family Planning (FP).
She made the call at the 8th Nigeria Family Planning Conference 2024 on Thursday in Abuja
The five-day conference has the theme “Sustaining Commitments For Family Planning Within the Nigerian Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative: Advancing Progress Towards Achieving FP2030 Goals.”
According to Ibrahim-Anas, FP is a critical aspect of development agenda, closely linked to economic growth, poverty reduction and improved health outcomes.
She added that “FP enable individuals and families to make informed choices about their reproductive health.
Anas emphasized the engagement of FBOs, community and traditional rulers and ensuring they are equipped with the necessary information and resources to promote FP in communities.
The presidential aide further said that lack of awareness about FP is another challenge affecting uptake of the system.
According to her, many people, especially those in rural areas, do not understand the benefits of FP or how to access services.
