Chairman, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Chief Elias Mbam, has obtained his nomination and expression of interest forms of the All Progressive Congress, APC to contest the governorship position of Ebonyi State.

Mbam is the first governorship aspirant on the platform of the APC in Ebonyi State to obtain his forms.

This, he did, despite the endorsement of the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon Francis Nwifuru, by governor David Umahi as his preferred successor in 2023.

Umahi handed down the endorsement at a burial in Okposi, Ohaozara LGA of the State last Saturday.

Mbam, in a message to his supporters, said he had already developed a blueprint, titled “The Ebonyi Dream, to lift the state out of its present poverty level.”

He said that the 2019 National Bureau of Statistics (NBC) poverty index of states that ranked Ebonyi at 87.02 per cent in poverty level, was a startling revelation that must be tackled head-on if elected Governor in 2023.

According to him, he will work to ensure that this is reversed between two to four years of his administration as governor.

Mr Obinna Udenwe, Chief Press Secretary to Chief Mbam, who disclosed that his boss had purchased his nomination and expression of interest forms, on his Facebook wall, said, “For all Engr. Elias Nwalem Mbam’s supporters, APC faithful and Ebonyians in general, we wish to inform you that it is official.

“Engr. Elias Mbam has today purchased the nomination form to run for governor of Ebonyi state. This past week has been a wonderful one for us – filled with heartwarming news, everywhere, even though to many bystanders in Ebonyi, were concerned about what was going on, there seemed to be darkness, but for us, we knew that everything was working for good.

“We assure Ebonyi people, especially those who were thrown into despondency with the recent event of past days, to put a smile on their faces, for the Egyptians we see today, we shall see no more!”

This was in reaction to the endorsement of the Speaker by Governor Umahi which has created mixed feelings across the state, with many people expressing concern that the speaker is being foisted on the people by the Governor.”
