Second phase of Covid -19 Vaccination to begin on 16th of August , 2021

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency has announced that the second phase of Covid 19 vaccination across the country would be flagged off on 16th of August 2021.
The Director General of the agency , Dr Faisal Shuaib who disclosed this on Tuesday at a press conference in Abuja stated that the initial postponement of the flag off of the second phase of the vaccination was to enable the agency in partnership with National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Commission to track and trace all the health facilities where the vaccines would be administered as well as putting other logistics in place.

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency boss, Dr Faisal Shuaib said that Nigeria had received Four Million, Eighty Thousand of Moderna Covid 19 vaccine donated by the US government, and would receive One Hundred and Seventy-Six Thousand purchased by the federal government through African Union which would arrive on Wednesday 11th of August 2021.

He stated that the Agency’s collaboration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Commission, NAFDAC, had led to the first ever tracking and tracing of vaccine which made it possible for effective monitoring of stock from National Cold Store in Abuja to where the jabs were being administered.

Shuaib further disclosed that the agency was wrapping up the training of about Forty Thousand, Seven Hundred and Thirty -Nine health workers at the national, state and ward levels to enable proper delivery, communication, data and logistic management of drug administration.
He advised Nigerians to accept all the brands of the vaccine , as they were tested and approved by NAFDAC as being adequate for protection against the virus.
While urging Nigerians to get vaccinated, he advised Nigerians not to take different brands of the jab in the first and second doses.

Speaking at the conference, the World Health Organization, WHO, country representative, Dr Kazadi Mulombo advised Nigerians to continue observing Covid 19 control measures , stating that Africa is still in the third wave of the virus.
He assured Nigerians that WHO would continue to support Nigeria in her effort to eradicate the virus

The press conference was organized to update Nigerians on the Covid 19 vaccination in the country.
