SENATOR NGIGE WAS NOT ARRESTED BY ICPC-SPOKESMAN
The spokesman of the Independent Corrupt Practices & Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Demola Bakare has said the former governor of Anambra state Dr Chris Ngige was not detained by the anti-graft agency.
Speaking with online newspaper, The Cable on Thursday, Bakare, said the former minister is “assisting” the commission with an investigation, but did not go into details of it.
“He was not arrested, he was not detained. He is helping us out with the investigation,” the spokesperson said.
“He is assisting in the investigation, but he was not detained.”
Also speaking on Dr Chris Ngige’s visit to ICPC, Dr. Emmanuel Nzomiwu, Special Assistant Media to Senator Chris Ngige, denied trending reports in the media, that he was arrested by the ICPC.
In a statement in Abuja Thursday, Nzomiwu urged Nigerians to “disregard the fake news circulating on social media on the arrest of His Excellency, Senator Chris Ngige OON, CON”
He said the former Minister of Labour “went to the ICPC on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, to assist the commission in an ongoing investigation of a project by the management staff of NSITF and the Ministry of Labour.
“Some of the management staff had in their statements alleged that they performed certain functions on a ministerial directive without presenting the necessary documentation.
“He therefore had to honour the invitation to clarify issues to the commission. By next week, he will forward the documents in his possession as most could neither be seen in the policy files of the Ministry nor at the NSITF”.
The media aide said “Senator Ngige visited the headquarters of the ICPC by 12 noon and left around 4.30pm. He was treated with courtesy deserving of his status as an elder statesman”.
