COVID-19: Nigeria to begin administering 2nd batch of vaccine Tuesday

The Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 (PSC), has said the country will begin administering the second batch of COVID-19 vaccines on August 10.

This was made known by the committee’s Director of Publicity, Willie Bassey on Saturday in Abuja.

This, according to Bassey, is to increase efforts to combat the third wave of infections.

The shipment was the second batch of vaccines to arrive in Nigeria, following the delivery of four million doses in March through the COVAX vaccine sharing facility. #

The Coalition of Northern Groups has kicked against the suspension of the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari following his indictment by a U.S Court.

Spokesman of the Coalition – comprising civil society organisations and non-governmental bodies – Abdulazeez Sulaiman spoke on behalf of the groups at a news conference after its meeting in Kaduna state on Sunday.

He noted that both the Nigerian police authorities and the FBI breached Kyari ‘s fundamental rights by not allowing him to be heard before taking the hasty actions against him.

They have, therefore, demanded an immediate review of the suspension and have also asked that the ongoing investigation with the FBI be transferred to the Nigerian Intelligence Agency. #

 

No-work-no-pay directive: FG battles NARD, opens attendance registers, resident doctors adamant

The Federal Government has mandated all chief medical directors in teaching hospitals across the country to open attendance registers with a view to stopping salaries of doctors taking part in the strike called by the National Association of Resident Doctors.

 

The order was revealed by the President of NARD, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, on Sunday.

As government and resident doctors on Sunday traded blame over the strike, plight of patients in the affected hospitals worsened as many of them were withdrawn by their relatives.

Recall that NARD on Monday last week resumed the strike it suspended on April 10 following the Federal Government’s promise to meet its demands including payment of the residency fund, COVID-19 allowance, hazard allowance as well as outstanding salary shortfalls. #

Bitcoin gains $220.24bn in 30 days, trades above $40k

Higher trading volumes mean more positive activity in the BTC market, which indicates greater investor security.

Lawyers at the Spanish club have filed a complaint to the European Court of Appeals, stating the Parisians should be stopped in their pursuit of Messi based on financial data.

Messi confirmed in a teary press conference that he will be leaving Barcelona this summer after a lifetime at the club, and is now finalising terms with PSG. #
