President Buhari summons security chiefs as Boko Haram commanders surrender

 

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday discuss with security chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as Boko Haram commanders surrender in droves.

the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina,  confirmed this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.

The President returned to Abuja last Friday after 18 days in London, during which he attended an education summit and did health checks.

Adesina noted that the nation’s security forces had in the past few weeks taken the battle more robustly to insurgents, bandits and all other criminals troubling the country.

Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno, had on Aug. 14 raised alarm over the security implication of the ongoing surrender of Boko Haram terrorists in the State. #

 

CVR: INEC receives 2.4m applications, as online registration hits 1.9m

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received 2, 449, 648 applications since the start of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) on June 28, according to a pictogram of the weekly update of the exercise it released on Monday, in Abuja.

The update also showed that to date, 1, 923, 725 Nigerians had completed their online pre-registration within the same period of seven weeks as at 7 am on Monday, Aug. 16.

INEC also disclosed that the 315,791 Nigeria had also completed their online/in-person or physical registration at the physical registration centres across the country, within the three weeks since its commencement. #

 

Police confirm killing of four oil workers by gunmen in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the death of four workers of Lee Engineering Company after gunmen attacked them on Monday morning in Assa community, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state.

The oil employees were ambushed on their way to an oil plant in the Assa neighbourhood when the hoodlums opened fire on them, according to the state’s public relations officer, Micheal Abattam, who confirmed the attack.

While four died on the spot, others were severely wounded with gunshots. #

 

Taliban Announce ‘General Amnesty’ For Government Officials

 

The Taliban has declared a general amnesty for all government officials in Afghanistan and urged them to return to work, two days after taking power following a lightning sweep through the country.

In a statement from the Taliban on Tuesday, it said a general amnesty has been declared for all,so you should start your routine life with full confidence.

President Ashraf Ghani fled the country on Sunday night as the insurgents, Taliban fighters encircled the capital, capping a military victory that saw them capture all cities in just 10 days. #
