FG appeals to the striking judicial union to return to work
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige has appealed to striking judicial workers to suspend its nationwide industrial action scheduled for Tuesday 13th April.
He made the appeal at a mediatory meeting between the federal government and the leadership of the union in Abuja.
Ngige said that judicial workers like doctors and nurses are important to society and deliberate effort should be made to keep them active. #
APC in Akwa Ibom reject Akpabio as leader
The battle over who becomes the leader is rocking the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State as stakeholders reject Senator Godswill Akpabio as leader of the party.
This will be the second time the party stalwarts are rejecting Godswill Akpabio as the party leader.
A group in the party led by a former military administrator Group Captain Sam Ewang (rtd) endorsed Akpabio as the party leader last month.
Rejecting the move, an enlarged stakeholder meeting of the party held on Sunday in the state kicked against the decision.
Those in attendance included Senator John Akpanudoedehe, National Caretaker Secretary of the party, Managing Director of oil and Gas free trade zone Authority, Obong Umana. #
Bandits kill 7 years old in Kaduna
An attack in Wawan Rafi II village, Zango Kataf LGA of Kaduna state on Monday left seven-year Philip Dauda and his father Joshua Dauda dead. The bandits also touched seven houses and one motorcycle during this attack.
Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in a statement on Monday said that security patrols deployed to the area forced the bandits to retreat to the forest.
The chairman Atyap Chiefdom Peace and Security Partnership Committee John Bala Gora while speaking on the attack said the secretary of the local government Elisha Saki later identified four victims Joshua Cauda, 54, Philip Dauda, 8, Francis Ayuba, 30 and Florence Denis 3
Governor Nasir El-Rufai prayed for the repose of the soul of those who lost their lives during the attack and offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved. #
Residents Doctors Threaten Another Strike
The President of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) Dr. Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi on Monday, on behalf of his colleagues, warned that should government fail to honour their agreement in the next four weeks, the Union will be forced to embark on another indefinite nationwide strike.
The strike was suspended after 10 days following a meeting with the government and some members of the union on Saturday.
Dr. Okhuaihesuyi acknowledged that significant progress has been made, adding that about 239 house officers have been paid as of Monday though there were some irregularities with the Payment. #
Perez Re-elected Unopposed as Real Madrid President for a sixth term
Real Madrid has announced Florentino Perez as President of the club for a sixth term.
The Spanish champions announced on Tuesday in a statement that the 74-year-old was the only name in the running since the window for potential candidates to apply opened at the start of the month.
Perez has already twice been re-elected unopposed, in 2013 and 2017.
His latest mandate will see him at the helm until 2025. #
